No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
