NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
