NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
