NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
