No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
