NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
