NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
