NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
