NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
