No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
