No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
