Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
