NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
