NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
