NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
