No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
