NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
