NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
