NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
