NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
