No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
