NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
