No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
