NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
