No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
