NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
