NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
