Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
