Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
