NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
