NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
