No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
